Wilket Creek, an old and cherished Toronto park was rocking on Sunday to the cool sounds of Andy Kim. A large supportive crowd, many of which had just finished the Terry Fox run/walk for cancer had a chance to witness a true one of a kind legend.
One of the fans told me that he and his wife had driven over 500 miles to see Andy live for the first time and I'm sure they would be ready to drive another 500 miles to see Andy again.
The 30 minute set included many of the 70s hits (Baby I Love You/Rock Me Gently/Rainbow Ride/So Good Together) as well as a neat reworking of 'How'd We Ever Get This Way' with it's Carribean style beats. Andy mentioned that he doesn't usually like to change a song's performance from the original and I'm certain that many agree with this but I personally enjoy seeing Andy remake or update his hits for the modern times we live in. Consequently, 'How'd we Ever Get This Way' was a highlight for me.
The band was excellent and the overall sound was very clear for us in the audience. It was a very nice uptempo show that kept the audience tapping their feet and singing along.
As most of you know, Andy has kept himself in fantastic shape and it showed as he twitched his hips, kicked up his feet and moved at top speed from one end of the stage to the other in time to the music. Great for the audience but a nightmare for a photographer trying to focus on the action.
Perhaps my only wish would have been for a longer show and maybe some of the newer songs from his current cd. The audience seemed ready for more as did the organizers and I know Andy had the energy and repetoire for a 2 hour concert. I do however understand the professionalism on Andy's part in sticking to the schedule of events for the day and not disrupting any of the other activities that may have followed. Maybe next year.
Well, now we all need to convince Andy to perform more shows. The demand is there as is the immense talent.
Great show Andy. Thanks a lot.

Hi Lucio
Thank you so much for posting this. Its a great review. The Terry Fox charity sounds like a real fun day but at the same time raising awareness and money for a worthwhile charity.
So glad you wrote this

Such a good review, Lucio.

Just wish I didn't live so far from there or I'd have been in the audience. Thanks for sharing it with the rest of us.

Fran ;)

I've asked them a couple of times and Hugh's room seems interested but nothing has happened. Perhaps it's time to try again since Andy has the new album to promote.
